Jason Young
Jason was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia and has lived in the Shady Spring most of his life. He didn’t have the blessing of being raised in a Christian environment, and so the world was his influence for a very long period of time. Because of this he lived a very troubled life as a child and by his teenage years “the party life” consumed him in every way. He managed to graduate from Shady Spring High School in 1995 and continued on the path of drug abuse and partying. He came to DBC in 2001 after meeting his wife who was attending as an unsaved single mother seeking truth about God. Within a month of attending together, Jason and Angela both surrendered their lives to Christ as Lord and were married about 5 months later.
Jason and Angela became members of DBC around March of 2001. After 5 years of serving in various ministries, they began to have a strong desire to minister to teens and began to serve as lay youth leaders. A year later, the Lord began to place a burden on their hearts to pursue formal biblical training for what they believed to be a call to full time ministry. About this time, the Youth Minister stepped down and Jason was asked to fill in until a permanent replacement was found. When the Youngs shared with the Elder Board that they believed that God was calling Jason to full time ministry, the Elders affirmed Jason’s calling, and after a month of prayer and deliberation, Jason joined the staff in August of 2006. He continues his formal biblical training through DBC’s Leadership Training program to this day.
Angela graduated from Shady Spring High School in 1998 and is also a graduate of Concord University. Jason and Angela have five beautiful daughters: Danielle, Rosalyn, Emma, Jaylin, and Maggie. Three of their daughters where homeschooled until 2009 and are now attending Greater Beckley Christian School. The two youngest (Jaylin and Maggie) stay at home with mom along with their dog Calvin and their cat Booger.
Carl Dingus
Carl was born in Jenkins, KY to Bob and Florence Dingus. He has 4 brothers and one sister. His father was the pastor of Hayman Missionary Baptist Church for 19 years (Southern Baptist), and his grandfather was the pastor of Burdine Freewill Baptist Church for 50 years. His other grandfather was a coal miner for 50 years.
Carl attended public school through elementary and junior high then attended Mayking Christian School through his high school years. The Lord began to work in Carl’s heart at the age of 10 as He began to show him his own sinfulness. He was exposed to the gospel his whole life, and placed his trust in Christ at the persuasion of his father after church on a Sunday night. Being a pastor’s kid, Carl had seen hypocrisy within the church, and at an early age, the Lord put a desire in his heart to pursue “authentic” Christianity. This pursuit for answers to his own life and answers for others led Carl to want to have a clearer understanding of the Word of God. The Lord gave him the opportunity to go to Appalachian Bible College where he was exposed to a systematic approach to studying Scripture. This began a lifelong love and pursuit of God’s Word. Later, the Lord gave Carl the opportunity to attend The Master’s Seminary, which further deepened his understanding of God’s Word.
Carl’s ministry experience includes nursing home ministry, children’s ministry, a short-term missions trip to Spain, and serving with the Gospel Heralds during his time at Appalachian Bible College. After graduation, Carl was a youth pastor at Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton, IN for six years. He established Capitol Ministries in Pennsylvania, and evangelized and discipled elected officials for eight years after finishing seminary. During their time in Pennsylvania, Carl was also involved in his local church teaching and preaching, as well as speaking at area church services and missions conferences. Carl has also had the opportunity to do formal one-on-one discipleship with various men through the years. He has a deep desire to help men to become strong spiritual leaders for their families.
Carl enjoys hiking, biking and camping with his family, and spends much of his spare time reading good books and reading and studying the Scriptures.
